| In a world in which every strain and stripe of opinion is perpetually and ubiquitously available, we need all the more to understand how to discern truth and reject falsehood. If the ways that entire cultures perceive the world can change in the course of a generation, then certainly an individual can change his perspective in an hour. It takes courage to tell intelligent people that they are reasoning poorly, but it must be done. If you see something that is particularly beautiful, or something that works particularly well, remember: it is the way that it is because of the way that it was. Leave it alone. |
